September 27, 2021 - Michelin Tire Test: Tesla Base Model 3 Standard Range Plus (SR+) Showroom Stock OEM PRIMACY MXM4 - SIZE: 235/45R18 All Season vs. PILOT SPORT 4S - SIZE: 265/40ZR18Pilot Sport 4S Max Performance Summer
@michelin & @nankangmotorsport tire testing went exceptionally well logging 27 laps between 4 sessions in two @unpluggedperformance @spectesla development Tesla Model 3s in identical base model aerodynamic trim Monday, September 27, 2021 at historic @hallettracing west of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The blue 2019 @teslamotors Model 3 Performance (AWD 450+hp) was able to clip off three flying laps under 1:25 within an 8 lap session with a personal best of 1:24.280 on lap two after a 1:24.477 on lap 1 (+0.197). Two cool down laps were taken before a third 1:24.807 (+0.527) was logged on lap 5. With three confident benchmark laps, a 4th flyer torture test lap 6 resulting in predictable overheat and power cut still managed a 1:25.651 before taking some cool down laps and moving onto the Standard Range Plus (SR+) Model 3 (RWD, ~260hp).
First session for the showroom stock SR+ Model 3 resulted in an absolutely joyful dance on the dainty 235/18" @michelinusa Primacy MXM4 all seasons despite a slightly underwhelming and concerning 1:34.467 opening lap. Without track mode, 2 cool down laps were taken before another final attempt that resulted in a session best 1:34.296 (-0.171) on lap 4 +6.522 off the race prepared and dialed in M3P AWD on @nankangmotorsport AR1.
Session two for the SR+ was aboard @michelin Pilot Sport 4S in a slightly wider 265/18" on 9.5" @konigwheelsusa. The first flying lap was a 1:28.972 improving by -5.324 with a simple tire swap. For the record, PS4S in OEM dimensions are approximately $50 cheaper than the OE Primacy MXM4.
The final test was to compare the showroom stock SR+ potential against the Unplugged Performance AWD Model 3 on the exact same tires (275 @nankangofficial AR1). Lap 1 resulted in a day's best for the SR+ at 1:27.774 (-1.198 from PS4S and +3.574 behind the AWD FTD).
